Can we just be real for a moment? I’ve been riding the hormone roller-coaster from hell for the last three years, exploring the uncharted territory of menopause, and let me tell you – it’s been a wild, sometimes nauseating ride. I don’t know where I’d be without yoga pants,

The Muck of Menopause and the Marvels of Jesus

So, picture this: hot flashes, mood swings, and navigating the complexities of perimenopause. If I had a dime for every time I’ve wondered, “Am I good enough? Pretty enough? Rich enough in estrogen?”, well, let’s just say I’d have a nice little retirement fund by now. The struggle is real, my friend, and you know what? You’re not alone in feeling all the things.

Now, rewind to 2010 – the year I discovered Jesus. Not like I discovered him, like the way I discover a cool dresser at the back of a barn sale. (“Yep! Here he is!”) I mean, who knew this guy would become the anchor of my life? Back then, I was in my mid-30s, blissfully unaware of the peace and purpose He could bring. It was like finding the missing piece of a puzzle I didn’t even know existed.

Scripture: Psalm 139:14 (NIV)

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

Dancing with Hot Flashes and Walking with Jesus

Perimenopause and faith – not exactly the dream duo, right? But here’s the kicker: it’s in these moments of sweaty desperation and spiritual exploration that I’ve found the most profound revelations. Imagine praying for cooler days and divine guidance in the same breath. Talk about multitasking!

As I waltzed through hot flashes, mood swings, and the occasional “Why me, Jesus?” moment, I realized that even superheroes have their quirks. And so do I. That time of the month now includes not just hormonal fluctuations but a soul check-in with the Big Guy upstairs.

Scripture: Galatians 2:20 (NIV)

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.”

Learning to Love My Flaws and All

Ever had a laugh line and thought, “I wonder if wood filler would work here?” I’ve got a collection of those, thanks to the rich experiences of perimenopause. It’s like a roadmap of resilience etched on my face. Embracing these changes, both physical and spiritual, has been a journey – and yes, I’ve occasionally wished for a GPS.

But here’s the deal: I discovered Jesus in the midst of not having it all figured out. At 35, I was a late bloomer to this faith thing. Yet, it was precisely in the uncertainty that I found grace, acceptance, and stretchy pants.

Scripture: 1 John 3:1 (NIV)

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”

In your heads, you’re still the body on the left. Your mirror might tell you otherwise.

Jesus says He loves you just the same.

Finding My Way to Prayer, One Mix-Up at a Time

Now, let’s talk about prayer – or rather, my early attempts at it. Picture this: me, in my mid-30s, standing before God like a befuddled contestant on a game show. I didn’t know how to pray; I didn’t know Moses from Jesus – two guys, 5-letter names ending in S. It was a spiritual mix-up of epic proportions.

But you know what? God didn’t mind my confusion. In fact, I believe He chuckled at my attempts to figure out this whole prayer thing. It was like having a conversation with a dear friend, stumbling over my words, yet knowing that I was heard. I used to listen to the radio for prayer prompts. Like classic rock radio stations. “Hey, Jesus? Have you ever had your heart broken? Ever want to take the midnight train doing anywhere? Are hornyback toads real?”

Scripture: Romans 8:26 (NIV)

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.”
